ABSTRACT
This article provides information about developments in the Cuban economy between 1996-1997 and the degree to which external financing has been at the heart of Cuban economic recovery. The Cuban government is advised to continue making internal adjustments that would enable the country to maintain its heralded social gains while at the same time increasing internal economic efficiency.
